What is a Child Family Investigator?
Child and Family Investigators (formerly "Special Advocates") were created by statute in 1997 and authorized to investigate, report, and make independent and informed recommendations to the court, following a court appointment by order which clearly sets forth the subject matter and scope of the child and family investigator's duties. The statue provides that a CFI may be an attorney, a mental health professional or any other individual whom the court believes is able to fill this role. Section 14-10-116.50, C.R.S provides for the appointment of child and family investigators in domestic relations cases.
